First light

OQUILO has somewhere to live. The archive and the notebook are both open, both empty, and both wired to markdown files rather than to anything I would have to maintain.

Every instrument gets a first light — the night you point it at the sky to find out whether any of it works. This is that, for a website.

What is here

Two things, and deliberately not a third:

  • The archive. Papers, preprints and working notes, racked by year. Each one gets a designation derived from its date rather than typed by hand, so the numbering cannot drift out of step with the dates printed beside it.
  • The notebook. This. Shorter pieces, held to a lower standard, written while the work is still going rather than after it has finished.

There is no publication list, because there are no publications. When there are, they will be in the archive like everything else.

What it is built on

Static files. Markdown in, HTML out, no client-side JavaScript on any page and no database behind any of it. The whole site is a folder that any host will serve, which is the only property that makes it likely to still be here in ten years.

What happens next

Reading, mostly. The plan is to write things down as I go and let the archive fill itself in behind me — which is a nicer way of saying that I do not yet know what the first entry will be about.
